About the Creator
A software engineer for the last 30-plus years, David recently discovered detailed journals & letters his late father wrote while serving aboard the USS Honolulu in World War II. His father Eugene, first as a reserve ensign and later as a lieutenant commander, saw action in numerous Pacific sea battles from 1942 to 1945, amid brief respites on shore leave in locales such as San Francisco, Cuba, the New Hebrides and Panama Canal Zone. Realizing the significance of these firsthand accounts, David took the aging scrapbooks, faded photographs, typewritten journals and photocopied letters his father had stowed away for the better part of 75 years, and assembled them into publishable formats which now become part of the historical record of that momentous conflict.
