About the Book
While his ill mother, Shakira, continues to struggle with addiction and is unable to raise her son on her own, a tech-savvy, animal-loving boy named Kid is forced to leave the projects and temporarily live on a pig farm with his God-fearing uncle, whom he calls, "Unk." Being a pig farmer for most of his life, Unk's relationship with Kid is noticeably strained and destined to result in resentment. It is clear that the two don't see eye-to-eye on most—if not, all—issues, especially one of consuming the flesh of animals in order to survive; however, after tragedy strikes, Kid feels that the only way to rid the sudden hatred in his heart is to commit a vile act that will later leave him questioning the differences that separate man from animal.
