About the Book
From the camera of award-winning photographer Tom Langlands. Over 100 pages of more than 200 photographs taken on the streets of Annan in southwest Scotland throughout the coronavirus pandemic 2020-2021. Started in early 2020 and photographed over a twelve month period this project documents how a town and its people responded to a global pandemic. The outstanding images show the architecture of empty streets to people tentatively wearing masks, from businesses opening up again to masks being the norm and a gradual return to life in colour in the spring of 2021. This book shows the difficulties some people had to endure, the fighting spirit of the town's residents and visitors alike, the humour of personalised masks and the wit displayed by the wearers. This book is an important piece of social history and is the most comprehensive photographic record of Annan ever undertaken. Most images are monochrome but there are also some colour images. As a piece of social history this publication of street photography has a relevance beyond the boundaries of this specific town and its people.
