About the Book
Late summer's milkweed flowers, host to the monarch butterfly, droop and wilt. The ovaries at the base of the flower swell into prickly pods with their enclosed seeds lying on a bed of silky fibers. The yellow pod matures into shades of gray, and splits open lengthwise. The seeds explode out of the pod, each attached to flossy white filaments that the wind disperses in random flight.
