About the Book
This book contains a collection of color portraits of people in Indian cities, towns, villages, and sacred pilgrimage centres. Starting in Bodhgaya at the Dala Chett festival, the celebrants shared their prasad with me—a precious moment of thanks-
giving. In Varanasi and Badrinath, the pilgrims’ portraits portrayed the spiritual wealth that permeated the air. I felt a quiet dignity, and often joy, on the faces of the villagers in Chandrabhaga, Lata, and Bhimunipatnam. Travelling with an open timetable allowed me to spend optimum time in each destination. I had the luxury of sitting, observing before taking a photograph. Often after deciding on a shot, I would sit waiting, looking at my subject, and repeat to myself “Speak to me”.
Each portrait speaks clearly about a life, and ultimately humanity.
