About the Book
My name is Dikka Afidick. I’m a photographer based in Los Angeles, California. I was born in Bandung, a small city in West Java, Indonesia, and grew up in Jakarta, the biggest city in Indonesia. After graduating from high school, I moved to Houston, Texas to study graphic design before venturing to Los Angeles, California in search of more opportunities to make unexpected photographs.
I quickly fell in love with photography when my mother gifted me my first film camera for my 16th birthday. That gift opened my eyes to a world in which I was allowed to choose my subjects and make my own decisions. It impressed me to the point that it changed my life—it made me realize that I wanted to become a photographer.
Street photography will always be my first love—walking around for hours with my camera and making pictures. In particular, my favorite part is the act of photographing without expecting to score a killer shot. If I do, then it’s a bonus. Although Los Angeles has been my playground for many years, I’ve never limited myself to just one city/town.
I often prefer to have balanced compositions and focus on primary colors, geometric shapes, frames in the frame, leading lines, and shadow/reflection selfies. Also, on some days, I like to be more restless and prefer to “hunt” on the streets for a good candid moment.
The name of this collection, Sana Sini, means “here and there” in Indonesian. It’s the perfect description of what you can expect to encounter in this book. It features color film photography, shot between 2019–2022.
