    About the Book

    Edit

From the Editor, Emily Dundas Oke:

In June 2021, a convergence of practices from various Nations formed to ignite the intergenerational conversation Huulthapi: Dancing Airwaves. At the invitation of curator
Tsatassaya White, esteemed dance leaders Margaret Grenier, Haa’yuups, Andrew Peter / Qwun Qwinuhw, and Lindsay Katsitsakatste Delaronde gathered to reflect upon the role(s) of dance through spiritual, collective, and futuristic realms.

Despite the specificity of their languages, traditions, and dance practices, each speaker found anchor in questions surrounding the essence and timelessness of dance. Although
the embodied nature of dance might prompt us to consider the body moving in time, the speaker’s guide us to think through the expanse of time which moves through the body
in storytelling traditions. Just as ancestors join us across time and space to dance, so too does this gathering prompt us to play between the realms of the visible and not visible.

Profits from any book sales ($2 on hard copy) will be donated to The Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society (VAFCS) for Pow Wow Dancing or other similar cultural events that the Friendship Centre might offer.
