About the Book
Photographers were hired by the government during the WWII years to document life on the home front. The principal agency for this work was the Office of War Information or OWI. In his research, Richards came across many images that would probably have been lost to history. Rather than simply looking at these images and forgetting them, he embarked on a project where he would use his artistic skills and tools to re-imagine them as new works. The book shows these re-imaged works taken from OWI photographers as well as other images from the same period. Each of the reworked images are annotated with the origins of the image to give the reader a feel of how the original black and white picture was transformed into a new work with a new story.
