About the Book
The Bestiary is a collection of comic verse and images dedicated to the odd idea that most animals around us are yes, fascinating but, not 'cute'. It is inspired by the medieval bestiaries which were full of strange, imaginary beasts, like those well known hoaxes, the unicorn and the platypus! They were often linked to moral messages. The message here is that we have often inappropriate attitudes to most animals.
Do not, please, assume that this is a just children's book. It may appeal to to the older child with a sense of humour but some of the verses here are just plain nasty. Like the animals that they present. Nature is mostly about running, hiding and sudden death. Wild animals have their own agenda and a kind consideration is not a feature of it.
It's also mostly terrible verse and limerick written for fun and designed hopefully to entertain.
The Bestiary is one of a series of 'Little Grumpy Books', written by a grumpy old man, each one designed to challenge conventional ideas in a 'Picture Book for Adults' format.
