About the Book
Filmmaker Christopher Seufert spent four years with late writer/illustrator Edward Gorey before his death in 2000. These interviews, casually recorded with Gorey draped with cats on the chair in his kitchen, over a beer at a nearby tavern, or at lunch at his daily lunch cafe, were the last expressions of Gorey's singular mind. The accompanying photos, the results of visits in 1996, 1998 and an intense week after Edward's passing capture the very personal way he created his own space within the Captain's House at 8 Strawberry Lane on Cape Cod. The possessions and furnishings he surrounded himself with here are laid out in this photo essay in their primordial state before these things were sold off and then reacquired to create the museum that now bears his name.
