About the Creator
A graduate of Ontario College of Art, with an MA in Philosophy, University of Guelph, Patrick Cummins worked for 3 decades as an Archivist with the City of Toronto. Additionally, he has worked for nearly 5 decades as a documentary photographer, recording Toronto’s vernacular architecture and the peripheral and interstitial marginalia found throughout its built environment. He has been described by critic John Bentley Mays as a “lone wolf explorer,” directing a “careful gaze at what most others ignore,” taking a “meditative interest in odd rips in the city fabric.” Cummins has participated in numerous exhibitions. His work has appeared in publications and films, and on many websites, most notably in the film Impermanence of the Ordinary (Dale Sood, 2013), and in his book Full Frontal T.O.: Exploring Toronto’s Architectural Vernacular, with text by Shawn Micallef (Coach House Books, 2012). His work is in the permanent holdings of the National Gallery of Canada and the Toronto Archives.
