About the Book
Wildflowers of Spirit Lake is designed to be a rounded collection of wildflower images for the Spirit Lake, Idaho area. All the flowers appeared around the lake in a single year, 2008, providing spatial and temporal coherence to the collection. The preceding winter was harsh and long. In early May snow still lay in places on surrounding hillsides down to the lake, particularly on the south shore. The avalanche lilies that poked their yellow faces through melting snow were the beginning of an unusual profusion of flowers through the summer, both in variety and number. This book is by no means a complete compendium of north Idaho wildflowers. On the other hand, no other book contains all of the flowers shown here.
