About the Book
Madonnas and Street Dogs is a collection of photographs taken upon visits to my family who live in Mexico. The tile is derived from my travels in Mexico where ubiquitous depictions of the Virgin Mary are to be found as well as dogs who wander the streets, the sublime and the base together. The scenes and textures that appear are common in Mexican life, often showing evidence of human activity without people actually appearing in the photographs. People are none-the-less always present as evidenced by how they have altered the landscape, what they have created or left behind. As nature wears down the human constructions what emerges is something authentic, simple, and beautiful.
