About the Book
“It felt like a dream,” is how a girl from Kandahar, Afghanistan, described using a camera for the first time. Malalai Abdali, was one of more than 2,000 Afghan young people who participated in the Afghan Youth Voices Festival, supported by Internews Network and sponsored by USAID throughout 2011 . The Festival enabled young people to express themselves using a range of traditional and new media tools. They interviewed community leaders, made videos about their neighbors, blogged about their lives, wrote poetry and took photographs. Using small digital cameras, they captured the beauty, struggles and hopes of their war-torn country. In this publication, they present a view of the country not seen before—Afghanistan through the eyes of its young people.
