About the Book
Vertu Fine Art (VFA) is proud to present "Low Fidelity - The Photographs of Bobby Grossman 1975-1983". Take a trip to the New York Underground through the lens of Bobby Grossman during the exciting time of the emerging Punk/New Wave/No Wave scene. Bobby Grossman attended the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) along with fellow artists David Byrne, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz in the mid- 70's who of course went on to major musical acclaim as the "Talking Heads". Upon arriving in New York, he found himself swept up in the exciting music, art and literary scene, often shooting the likes of Andy Warhol, David Bowie and William S, Burroughs. He was always in the mix at punk venues like CBGB's and the Mudd Club. He was the official photographer of Glenn O'Brien's TV Party, a cable public access program created by O'Brien featuring a cast and crew that included none other than Jean-Michel Basquiat, Debbie Harry and Fab 5 Freddy. The show was billed as "TV Party, the TV show that's a cocktail party but which could be a political party". A documentary of the show made it's debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2005. Grossman was selected as one of the feature photographers in the travelling " Bande a part, New York Underground 60's 70's 80's" exhibit and in numerous publications. The works included in "Low Fidelity" are a time capsule that will take you back no matter how old you were back then. The limited edition Silver Gelatin prints range from 16 X 20" to 60 X 40" with the impressive Debbie-Pepsi and Andy Warhol - Corn Flakes Chromogenic prints.
