About the Book
The photographs in Continental Drift
were taken over a period of two decades
in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Pamplona,
Barcelona, Cape Town, Durban, Berlin, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Montpellier, Gothenburg, and the Scottish Highlands.
The aim of the series was to explore
issues of displacement and transience that have been an important feature of my life since I was a young child. I have lived in six different cities, in three different countries, in two different continents; and the idea of one life ending and
another beginning has a particular
resonance for me.
I did not set out simply to illustrate
my own movements or understanding of ephemerality, but to to evoke a wider sense of what these entail.
