    About the Book

    Edit

This book focuses on women of all ages and from different social strata who are influenced of society and education engendering a self-image, that is presented to their environment. In our fast Western world, where interaction is often characterized by lack of contact, distrust and haste, we know nothing about the people that we, in passing, take little or no notice of. We know nothing about their lives, their love, talents, dreams, desires and their inner wealth. And nothing about their injuries, disappointments, pain, guilt or stress.

I want my photographs to describe but not interpret. Exploring a language that would illustrate the dynamics between the obvious and the hidden, obscure nature, I photographed women in Cork, Dublin, New York, Paris, Berlin, London, Munich and Edinburgh.

The aim is to confront the viewer with the complexity of woman's image in our society and to encourage a more attentive observation. I want to create a space for engendering enthusiasm toward fellow human beings and their history. I want to encourage empathy, attention and interest that will lead to more understanding and appreciative encounters.

The words are parts of poems of Rainer Maria Rilke.
