About the Book
"Isla Vista, 1970" is a portrait of the residents of Isla Vista, the community adjacent to the University of California at Santa Barbara, several months after the riots and the burning of the Bank of America in Isla Vista. Norlynne Coar shot these photos and interviewed a variety of Isla Vista residents as an independent studies project in anthropology at the University of California at Santa Barbara. The book portrays a cross section of a diverse group of people who often preferred to put their rumps on the ramp rather than put their lives on the line.
