About the Book
Early in 2008, inspired by plants and flowers close to his home in Sevenoaks, photographer Dominic Whiten embarked on a personal project to photograph and exhibit a collection of fine art images.
"I didn't want to shoot conventional floral images outdoors," says Dominic, "but to explore single blooms like abstract objects in the style of contemporary graphics. I'm inviting the viewer to take a fresh look at flowers through their structure, detail and vibrant colours."
Technically, although shooting digitally, Dominic has used a traditional approach, keeping retouching and editing to an absolute minimum. FLORA is all about lighting and the photographers eye. The collection shows the flowers exactly as they are with one exception. "In a spirit of fun", grins Dominic, "I've turned a dahlia from pink to blue!"
