About the Book
Born in 1952 in the city of La Paz, Bolivia from Scottish and Spanish ancestry, Carlos lived in Sydney, Australia for 4 years of his early childhood and moved to New York when he was 12 years of age. Sports were by far the most defining of activities that would strongly influence his general outlook and be a vital key to a creative expression. From playing cricket and rugby at a high level as a youngster to becoming a professional soccer player there was always a powerful drive to refine his skill and talent. At age 30 or so Carlos was able to refocus his creative energy and his affinity for improvisation into artistic expressions via painting with pastels and experimenting with photography.
His work has evolved from producing strictly representational themes to include abstract, semi-abstract, and impressionist images that highlight textures, colors, and forms found in common every-day subjects. Among his current motifs you can find reflections in the Miami River, the natural decaying process of leaves and plants, as well as the natural effects of time, weather and oxidation on metals and other materials. Though they may retain strong aspects of their original forms, many of the images are striking for their divergence, or, transformation into new forms, textures and colors that are choreographed in a spectacular movement across the spectrum.
