About the Book
The title of the original album created by Robert Augustus Newsom (R.A.N.) was "A Few Photographs - collected by an insignificant cog-wheel, in the machinery of the Great War 1914-1918, showing chiefly the work of the P.B.I. [Poor Bloody Infantryman]". However, it would be inappropriate to keep that title for this collection - the memories of such a hugely significant man.
The original album was compiled during the 1920s, after R.A.N. returned frrom service as part of the Army of Occupation in Germany. The photos contained in this collection are a mixture of his own originals and those purchased by him for his album.
All the text contained in this version has been kept as close to the original as possible, though as R.A.N. wrote in white laundry ink, some sections of text have faded to the point of being virtually illegible.
This version of his personal album has been compiled by his grandson.
