About the Book
The Himalayan Trusts and Foundations of various countries continue the work started by Sir Edmund Hillary in the 1960's. Th Australian Himalayan Foundation, born 10 years ago, has teacher training as its main project. Teachers in Nepal receive very little training in how to teach. Most classes focus on rote learning rather than developing curiosity and understanding. So each year trainers from Australia and New Zealand join a skilled team of Nepalese trainers to run 15 day intensive training courses to give teachers from the mountain communities new skills and ideas for child centred learning.
