About the Book
So called "Edicole Votive" are street altars in Naples, mostly dedicated to godmother Maria, to Jesus or a saint. This veneration of saints stands in high contrast to the chaotic surroundings in the streets. Often altars are also empty or damaged, sometimes altered and supplemented. Ralph Dinkel has photographed about 200 of these "edicole" and shows a personal selection in this book.
