About the Book
A look at the decor and typical passenger style from the interior of Santa Fe's Hi-Level cars; as portrayed in custom detailed Walther's HO scale models. The production of the Walthers HO scale El Capitan Hi-Level cars inspired Al Willcoxen and Ken Johnson to create miniature Kachina art to cover the bulkheads in the Sky Lounge of these fine and highly accurate models. The project grew from making Kachinas for the Sky Lounge to creating a complete interior setting for the entire train, including authentic table patterns, carpeting, walls and door details. Even vintage playing cards, authentic menus and sandwich wrappers from Al's collection were scaled down by Ken to give the cars a "lived in" feeling. To add life to his cars, Al strategically placed Preiser figures in each car typical of the scenes that played out around him during his travels in the "Top of the Cap."
All in all it was a tremendous effort, but a labor of love which resulted in a striking miniature representation of one of Santa Fe's greatest trains and a snapshot of railroad history - from the inside out.
