About the Book
Martinez's sculpture grew out of a series of drawings (see photo on page 196) which were created in the late 1980's in Los Angeles. These were black chalk drawings of figures conceived as "imaginary" angels. This surrealistic collection of drawings were seemingly connected to his place of birth, New Orleans, a quite surreal place in and of itself.
Martinez has also worked in other media, such as watercolors, prints, drawings, photocomposites, and paintings. He is also an accomplished musician, composer, and educator.

About the Creator
Frank Martinez was born in New Orleans and began his musical and artistic career there. It was a very special place and, as a culture, nurtured these characteristics. He later studied the guitar in Madrid and Santiago de Compostela, Spain in Segovia masterclasses in 1973 and went on to receive his Masters degree from USC. He also studied music composition with Louis Andriessen at the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Netherlands. He has performed extensively for nearly 50 years and has written works for guitar, exotic instruments, orchestra, and smaller ensembles. He is a multi-instrumentalist and has been interested in the music from many world cultures since the 1970’s. One of his specialties is performing on the Native American flute, of which he has a large collection. He collects many other various “exotic” musical instruments as well. His focus has also been in poetry, the visual arts, and photography. The books serve as an archive and visual depository of his many works.
