    About the Book

    Edit

The Daylily is often called "the perfect perennial ", due to its brilliant colors, ability to tolerate drought and thrive in many different climate zones, and it's generally low maintenance.

The scientific name for the Daylily, Hemerocallis, comes from the Greek words hçmera "day" and kalos "beautiful". This name alludes to the fact that blooms last no more than 24 hours. The flowers open in early morning and wither during the following night, often replaced by another one on the same stalk the following day.

The Daylily is native to Eurasia, including China, Korea, and Japan. The earliest known references to daylilies is from China around 2697 BC. The Daylily is popular worldwide because of the showy flowers and hardiness. There are estimated to be 50,000 to 60,000 registered cultivars

My focus in this image collection has been on the details of individual blooms and their contribution to the overall splendor, sensation, color, and spectacle of each flower.
In this photographic collection, I have attempted to present a view of the true essence of but a few members of the Daylily family in a way that represents not only their amazing physical beauty but also the emotional impact and the essence of each floral detail.

I hope your viewing of these images is as inspiring and thought provoking to you as I experienced during their creation and composition.
