    About the Book

Question: What interests a graphic designer?

Answer: The stuff in this book.

    Question: Why?

My Mac computer stores my personal collection of a few thousand digital photos I’ve taken over the years from around the world. Some, it always seemed to me, were just waiting to escape. And so I decided to make this presentation.

This book is about disparate images and the interplay between them. The sequence of images is not a narrative but it very often suggests pairings that are a mixture of the deliberate and the unintentional.

Some of the images are compelling in their simplicity, while others are engrossing in their complexity.

They sometimes ask, “What’s wrong with this picture?” Most of them ask, “What’s happening here?” or “What’s going on?” Some are wacky, weird, quirky, ambiguous, eccentric, sad, humorous or trivial.

So, whether you think there’s a connection between the images on these pages or you think there isn’t, you’re right. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do. And, I hope they make you think: Who? What? Where? When? And, of course, Why?
