About the Book
Exhibition catalogue for the fold-up, the get-up, the move about, by artist Kim Neudorf. May 1 - June 8, 2014 at Evans Contemporary in Peterborough, ON, Canada. In her work, Neudorf utilize the trace, the stain, and the residue of the painting process. She is concerned with the illusion of an image which, built up of various parts which come together, resemble the appearance of something known (an image of a building, figure, object, etc.) or the behavior of something known (an abstract shape which behaves like a face or a figure). Neudorf’s work attempts to provoke viewers to invent a way to speak back to the paintings. While these viewer experiences are inaccessible to the artists, they nevertheless continually haunt her work. The point for Neudorf is not to ask viewers to solve the paintings, but to develop relationships with them over time. Ultimately, Neudorf invites viewers to experience the work on their own terms. Includes text by artist Jenine Marsh
