About the Book
Richmond Maine was settled in 1725 and by the 1800’s this industrial community, with a brass foundry, a large saw mill, four ship-yards, and a furniture factory, thrived along the Kennebec river. To meet the housing needs of the workers, a boardinghouse was built across the street from the shipyards in 1820, until the 1920’s. Although the rooms no longer house tenants they remain as they were when vacated. This book of photographs is of the private and public spaces of the tenants.
