About the Book
Michael Dillon first travelled to India in 1969 on his way to Nepal. Since then he has returned many times both as a tourist and as a film maker. He has travelled overland by London Taxi from the Punjab to Bombay, navigated the Ganges by jet boat with Sir Edmund Hillary from Ganga Sagar to the Himalayas and climbed India with Sir Edmund Hillary (using many forms of transport) from its southern tip to the Himalayas. In 1990 he walked from the Bay of Bengal to the Nepalese border with Australian mountaineer, Tim Macartney-Snape in his successful quest to climb the full height of Mount Everest starting from sea level. A Fare to Remember, From the Ocean to the Sky, India, a Personal Encounter and Everest Sea to Summit are his award winning films of these journeys. In March 2014, he returned with his wife, Robyn Leeder. Together they travelled up the Ganges from Kolkata to Varanasi, explored Rajasthan and returned to Michael's favorite village - Rahavati, near Delhi . This book is a glimpse of the light, life and vibrant colours of India, revealed by that journey.
