About the Book
As an ecological artist and activist, my work addresses concern about the vulnerability of water. We are seduced by waters' beauty; mesmerized and awed by its' power or soothing meditative qualities, and have taken it for granted for far too long. Faced with environmental uncertainties, we need to rethink assumptions that nature will right itself on its own accord.
My artwork is about the fragility of being: a refuge, and a reminder of such simple pleasures as meditating on light dancing on water. However, it is not only the reflective quality of water that I investigate, but also its symbolism of inner luminosity. There are a lot of artists, including myself, for whom art still has a spiritual component. There is a saying that I've adopted as my motto: "If you point your camera at God, God will look back at you". Simple stated, pointing a camera at the natural environment with reverence instills a spiritual quality to the subject and gives me a sense of humility mixed with awe.
