I am a landscape, nightscape and seascape photographer, and I have shot most of my photographs in South Africa and Namibia. These countries have plenty of wonderful spots for landscape photographers - and there are hundreds of beautiful photo books on South Africa and Namibia - but I try to see the places from different perspectives, or to catch them at different moments: for example, at night, when nobody is around and the Milky Way is visible high in the sky. I think a good landscape photograph can be shot even with a smartphone or a cheap camera, but to shoot nightscapes you need the right equipment and also a good deal of courage, above all in Africa. Sometimes what you see on the display after shooting is really stunning, if you use a light sensitive camera. It is a completely different world from what you see in daytime, and it is worthwhile spending hours in the cold and darkness. But remember: wear sturdy shoes!
