About the Book
Robert Leib is a photographer who holds a PhD in Continental Philosophy from Villanova University and an MA in Liberal Arts from St. John's College, Annapolis. This work is part of his larger efforts in the fields of Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Images to understand the primary role images can play in the formation of cultural perception and of belief systems more generally. Though disregarded along with the panoply of "magical" practices and beliefs today, a serious reconsideration of the Renaissance idea of signatures reveals a fondement of perceptual experience and sense-making that is difficult, if not impossible, to recoup in terms of mainstream cognitivist or materialist theories of the image.
