About the Book
Clement of Rome was born in the first century A.D. and died 99 or 101 A.D. He was the second or third Bishop of Rome and is considered part of the Apostolic Succession in Rome by the Catholic Church. Purportedly a disciple of the Apostle Peter, he wrote 1 Clements, a letter to the church in Corinth, and there are other writings attributed to him which modern scholarship now disputes. The Recognitions are not accepted as Clementine today, but their content leaves room to doubt that conclusion. And their content proves valuable in any study of the New Testament.
