About the Book
Since my arrival in San Francisco, I have taken pictures of street musicians, performers, and entertainers. In the beginning, I had no specific purpose in mind. Taking these images one by one, however, I have found a common thread among these street musicians. Although they all have different talents and backgrounds that contribute to their street performances, they have simple dreams of a basic recognition of their skills, and a little compensation to meet their daily needs. In fact, I need what they need as an artist. When I photograph them, I feel like we work together; they play music and I take pictures. It was not always possible, but I tried to talk with them in between their performances. The exaggerated blurriness of my camerawork in this series demonstrates my affinity for their loneliness and humble souls, which I attempt to envelop in my art like a warm blanket. I seldom see many of them again in the streets, but I hope I can share these fleeting moments of joy and the dreams of street musicians with many viewers.
