About the Book
Welcome to the third edition of our Gallery Guide, featuring a greatly expanded install of our Permanent Collection Galleries – now including 317 objects, with a combined running time of more than eight and a half hours! You'll find every object label in this massively updated Gallery Guide.
There are also several new galleries covering all-new topics for you to explore: Humans, Underwater Life, Machines, Fountains, Elevators and Escalators, Railway Stations, and Walks.
That doesn’t mean our previous 23 galleries haven’t seen any improvements - we’ve added new objects to nearly every one of our original galleries, over a dozen new Listening Closeups on topics like the Wire Recorder, the modern microphone, the history of earplugs, the Singing Statue at Thebes, echolocation, Rice Krispies cereal, and more!
Our Transport gallery has also had a complete overhaul, arranging the objects in a clear taxonomy of transportation modes for the first time!
Other new features include:
• SOUND: An Extremely Brief Introduction
• Glossary of Sound and Culture Terms
• Revised and expanded Reading List
• Curator's Top 40 Objects Playlist
• #PortableSoundPoll Archive
This new edition of our Gallery Guide goes beyond a guidebook to become a veritable textbook: it's a cross-disciplinary introduction to the culture of sound!
