    About the Book

    Edit

"Matteo's Frightening Bone" is based on a True Story.

Matteo is a real boy of five years old and something was bothering him.
What was it? What was causing his FEAR and how did he overcome it?
This story is an activity lesson that can be used to pinpoint one's fear through the visual language of art. By using word images children are encouraged to imagine without limitations.

How to use the Book: Teachers, Parents and Caregivers.
The story layout is important to the use of the book as a tool for teaching the value of words.
The exercise of creating images with words is to encourage literacy as a fun learning experience.
My four year old students encouraged the black background as the boys loved the scariness of the book. The black also resembles an old fashioned chalkboard which enables an art exercise in conjunction with the book. This is how I use the book with children: I give each child a black sheet of paper and white chalk, to create their own word image story expressing their inner world. Perhaps your students will uncover their own fears and become brave like Matteo?
    - Kathleen Katon Tonnesen, (2011).
