About the Book
For twenty-five years I carried my 35mm camera everywhere I went on the fortuitous chance that I might come across a beautiful heart symbol. I photographed hearts as I found, them broken or whole, glamorous or plain, highbrow or low. Hearts appeared abundantly in architecture and gardens and manifested theatrically at weddings and in every edible delicacy. I came across hearts as I drove on back roads and highways, on custom cars and trucks, on neons and billboards. A miscellany of handmade hearts emerged, gifts of unknown artisans who daily supply us with an infusion of heart energy. Likewise the ubiquitous graffiti hearts that showed up all over town. And every February, no matter how cold or bleak, I stalked the current window displays chronicling the changing face of Valentine's Day. Unrivaled though, were the discovery of hearts that nature had etched into delicate blossoms, knots of wood, marble, sandstone and in the transience of a passing cloud. The more I pursued the heart image the more its alchemy opened my life to positive energy. Being heart connected is a high. The message was always the same: love has spoken. Chances are after seeing these photographs and reading the elegant words you will never see the heart icon the same way again and you will begin to notice that love is everywhere.
