About

Born in Oklahoma, the family later relocated to Houston. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, he began his teaching career in Texas and relocated to Southern California where he continued teaching.

As a young boy he spent hours reading books relating to travel which started his lifelong interest in foreign cultures and languages. Ferguson is fluent in Spanish and has a working knowledge of several other languages. As a teacher, he took advantage of summer vacations by traveling throughout Europe, South America, and repeatedly to Argentina and Mexico where he lived for a while.

Although a late bloomer as an artist, Ferguson began associating with artists during his early trips to Mexico City where he socialized with a group of artists, some of whom have become very prominent, such as Nahum Zenil. He was also a close friend and neighbor of the late pioneer California assemblage artist Gordon Wagner whose studio he visited frequently.
