About
Berlin based artist Thomas Chapman has established an inimitable style of painting through his unusually shaped stretcher bars and textured fabric grounds. He resolves the political, and social environment of today within the silhouettes of the shapes he creates. Painting and using collage on top of these complex structures, he mutates multiple methods and patterns. Thomas creates his distinct work by scouring art history to twist his favorite styles of the past into a current reflection of the environments he resides in. After spending his first 21 years in California he received his BFA from Louisiana State University in 1998. From 1998-2008 Thomas was based in Brooklyn where he absorbed the Urban Landscape. Since July of 2008 he and his family have been living in Berlin where his second child Igor was born.
